Many Thanks to Mark Taylor for coming down and giving both his support and excellent review!!!

PRAYING MANTIS
MERTON MANOR CLUB, LONDON

What a good way to warm up for another year full of more gigs than with a low key warm up Praying Mantis gig before they head off to Japan for gigs in Tokyo and Osaka.

Japan has been kind to Praying Mantis over the years. Whilst the rest of the world was getting drenched in a sludge of grunge in the early nineties, the Japanese market was lapping up a trio of albums; ‘Predator In Disguise’, ‘A Cry For The New World’ and ‘To The Power Of Ten’ which kept the band very much alive.

”Praying Mantis are a band who are going from strength to strength. In fact they are better now than they have ever been in their career. I thought that their brand of harmonic melodic rock might be too much for most sozzled minds on this graveyard shift but Praying Mantis soon captured everyone’s imagination as they gave a very well crafted and polished set.

Yes, true, despite a whole year waiting, finally on Saturday 26N in Barcelona, true NWOBHM Legends were delivering a great show. Raven and Praying Mantis were headliners. Before, Bourbon Society, Wild and Tysondog were opening the festival METALCOVA IV.

Around 23:00 h local time, Praying Mantis went on scene and checking sound. After 20 minutes which seemed eternal, finally thumbs up from Tino and drummer.

It’s unlikely as an American, unless you’re a devotee or historian of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM), you will know of England’s Praying Mantis. Their origins go deep into the late Seventies and then breakout with a substantial NWOBHM classic Time Tells No Lies in 1981. Difficult times followed, even though they had support slots with Iron Maiden, and the band fumbled. A resurrection occurred in 1991 and continued through 2003 until another lapse. 2009 brought usSanctuary, a positive and true example of PM’s melodic hard rock, on the Frontiers label.
