I was a heavy metal kid back in the late seventies and early eighties
and was a huge fan of Preying Mantis. I even made a big patch of the
band's logo (I couldn't find one to buy) and sewed it onto the back of
my denim jacket! I wore it with great pride, especially as I knew it was
a complete original.
Twenty two years on and I'm rediscovering my metal routes, and loving every
minute of it. Unfortunately I sold Time Tells No Lies along with all my other
metal albums when I became a Smiths fan in the mid 80s, but I held onto the
double single of Cheated and a few other choice metal 45s. Tonight I listened to
it again for the first time in perhaps a decade and realise aftert all these
years what a great band PM were. They could certainly write a catchy rock tune,
and the guitar work is of an equally excellent pedigree. I also listened to some
Tygers Of Pan Tang stuff tonight (one of my other fave NWOBHM bands in 1981) and
it hasn't stood the test of time any where near as well as the PM single. Now if
only I could get my hands on a CD of the album and relive those heady
headbanging days. All the best to Tino, Chris and the guys, wherever you are.
